I'm really excited about this year's nominees, and I hope all you readers out there will share your views of the nominees and generate some enthusiasm for the program. I had a discussion about one of the nominees, Victory with a student Friday. I must admit that this book was not one of my favorites, but the student really enjoyed it. This list has something for all tastes: historical fiction, poetry, nonfiction, fantasy, science fiction, and realistic fiction. One of my favorites is Crossing the Wire by Will Hobbs. It tells the story of a 15 year old Mexican boy who dreams of making it to America by illegally crossing the Mexico/United States' border (wire). Whatever your views on "Illegals", this gives you insight into their realities and Victor's struggles to gain access to the US are very suspenseful. Let me know what you think of it.
We are expecting multiple copies of the nominees to be delivered this week so check back often. Remember they are located on the shelves to the right as you walk in so you can quickly see if the one you want is available.
Later, Mrs. Kicker
